Why I Joined Dyndrite - Brandon Cowart
Dyndrite had taken such a novel approach to solve nearly every frustrating limitation in creating quality prints that it seemed like an entirely new invention.
Hi! I’m Brandon. I am a Dad to a little boy who just turned 2 last week and a husband to my best friend. We live in Texas with our dog Nora. I am a big sports fan, and I’m currently trying to teach my son to throw up the ‘hook ‘em horns’ hand sign whenever he hears our fight song. I graduated from the University of Texas in 2012, and in my limited spare time, I like to play mediocre chess.
For the past 6 years, I’ve worked as a software QA for multiple AM companies and have become very familiar with the inherent pitfalls that are accepted as just being a part of the industry. I’ve seen process engineers come up with great ideas, only to realize they were impossible or prohibitively difficult to manifest due to software limitations.
At my last job, a coworker showed me a demo of Dyndrite’s software. He had the chance to evaluate Dyndrite as a vendor and wanted to show me what he was seeing. This was not a formal demo, but more of a “look how cool this thing is!” Dyndrite had taken such a novel approach to solving nearly every frustrating limitation in creating quality prints that it seemed like an entirely new invention. I was told at the time that it was a “slicer that could do a bunch of other things.”
Over time, I have come to learn that this was not an entirely accurate description. It was clear I was not looking at a slicer, geometry engine, or build automation tool, but something that took on the role of all of these things and more. It was a tool that empowered engineers to be creative and solve their own problems. I recall telling my coworker that it was like looking at an early smartphone: “Why does your phone have a camera?” Because it is not just a phone–it’s a camera, a calculator, and anything else you need it to be. This was a true game-changing invention.
Joining the team at Dyndrite was a no-brainer. It was an opportunity to be a small part of something great. I enjoy the entire back-end process of defining and testing for ‘quality’ in a product. With Dyndrite’s software, I know that AM engineers around the world are going to have the chance to redefine what an acceptably quality part looks like to them.
